I’ve always felt like if you want to find the best abstract art on the planet, you’ve got to go underwater. The ocean doesn’t really follow any rules. It just throws these wild corals and neon fish everywhere and somehow makes it all look like a masterpiece. It’s basically the ultimate playground for the imagination, which is exactly why I felt like I had to paint it.

For this piece, I wanted all that 'everywhere' color, but I didn't want that messy look where it feels like I just fought the canvas and lost. I decided to smooth things over, literally. I stripped away the rough brushstrokes and those deep paint dents you usually see, because I wanted the paint to be leveled and smooth. It’s got that deep, heavy canvas texture you can really feel, but with a clean, refined finish. It’s vibrant and a little chaotic, just like the reef, but I made sure to iron out the wrinkles first."
